The Grok Imagine prompt formula
Grok Imagine rewards structure far more than clever wording. Prompts that name all six components consistently beat vague one-liners, because each part gives the model a separate decision to anchor on:
- 1Subject — who or what, with specific distinguishing detail
- 2Setting — where the scene takes place
- 3Lighting — the single biggest driver of perceived quality
- 4Style — a photographic, cinematic or illustrative anchor
- 5Technical — camera body, lens, depth of field
- 6Quality + negatives — detail modifiers, then what to exclude
How to stop Grok Imagine producing anime
This is the most common complaint about Aurora: you ask for a photograph and get a stylised illustration. It is almost always a prompting problem, not a model limit. Photorealism mode applies all three fixes at once:
- Leads with Photorealistic photograph of… instead of a bare subject.
- Adds real-world cues — visible skin texture, natural imperfections, slight film grain — which push the model away from clean illustration.
- Appends explicit negatives: not anime, not illustration, not 3D render, no CGI.
Words like “beautiful”, “perfect” and “flawless” tend to trigger the stylised look — describe real light and real texture instead.

Where to set resolution, duration and aspect ratio
Grok Imagine takes these from buttons in its own composer, not from the prompt text — which is why the generator tells you which aspect ratio to pick rather than writing it into the prompt. Choose Image or Video first, then the ratio, then Speed or Quality mode. Quality mode publishes up to four images per prompt, so it is usually the better use of a paid generation.
